As Above, So Below!
You might have heard this term before and while it’s not a definition of Astrology, it certainly speaks to it. Astrology is not about celestial bodies causing us to behave a certain way down here on Earth, but rather, that there is a relationship between the planets, the Sun and the Moon and our earthly lives. Exploring this relationship expands our awareness of who we are as humans and as soul beings.
The first step in this exploration is understanding your natal chart. This is a map of the planets at the exact moment of your birth. The details of this static picture provide you with insight into what talents you brought with you into this existence and what challenges you may face in achieving your soul’s intention. It allows you to gaze into your psyche and finally understand why you think and behave the way you do.
I’m sure you’re familiar with popular or mainstream ‘Sun Sign’ astrology. This information is a limited view using just the sign in which your sun is located and assumes that everyone of that particular sign will behave in the same way. That’s what you read your daily horoscope.
Even though we know there is not a lot of depth to these snippets of information, it’s still fun to read and sometimes we find elements of truth there. The reality is that, just like people, no two birth charts are the same. We each have our own path in life and way of dealing with the reality around us and Natal Astrology can help you understand what that is.
Natal Astrology uses not only your birth date, but also the time and place of your birth to calculate the location of the planets (including the Sun and the Moon), the signs and houses in which they reside and the aspects (the angles between the planets) at the exact moment of your birth. The details found in your natal or birth chart (usually the first step to using astrology in your life) are specific to you and your life path. The birth chart reveals your personality traits and can help define your talents, passions and spiritual direction. It can also put you on the right career path or help you find a compatible partner – among many other things.
Astrology can also provide you with advanced knowledge of what the Universe has in store for you. This is called a transit chart and is done by superimposing your natal chart onto a map of where the planets are today. By looking at the planetary interaction relative to the fixed location of your birth planets an astrologer can give you a heads up on what to expect on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. You have the opportunity to plan accordingly; take advantage of opportunities that are being offered or avoid the pitfalls that may lay ahead. If the planets aspect each other in a calm way, you are more likely to experience ease in your life. If there is turmoil in the heavens you will feel that too.
Astrology is used in many different areas from practical matters like business, finance and politics to more personal matters like relationships, career, home and family, and spirituality. As you navigate the pathway that is your life, I encourage you to take advantage of all that can be revealed to you through Astrology. After all, we are born of the stars and Astrology reminds us of this connection. Our lives are not accidents, but meaningful events in the fabric of time and space and we are compelled to make the very best of it.
