The sign of Capricorn is symbolized by the Mountain Goat or in ancient times the mythical creature, the Sea Goat. They have an unbending urge to ACHIEVE, to climb the mountain of success, stepping lightly over all obstacles in their way. Their drive is for achievement and recognition with an eye always on the long-term goal or plan. Their vision is practical and clear-seeing, unemotional, ambitious, disciplined, reserved, cautious, skeptical, restrictive, sober, orderly, controlling, manipulating power, and has no tolerance for sentimentality. Capricorns are motivated by the need for control.

For Capricorns, structured order is paramount because, after all, a rule is a rule and they like things to make sense and be sensible. Saturn is their ruling planet and this old guy (think Father Time) can sometimes make them seem a little dour. They approach life with caution, reserve and great self-control. Their feelings can be buried deeply and they may appear outwardly cool and pessimistic. Though Capricorns may face some difficulties in youth and feel old beyond their years, the good news is that, as they grow older – and wiser – their lives becomes more full and it is then that they can relax and enjoy the view from the top of the mountain.

Those born in the sign of the goat tend to have a good sense of humor, although it is often expressed as a dry wit. Capricorn understands the value of what has been tried and true. They respect tradition and the elders of the culture. In esoteric, or spiritual, astrology, Capricorn rules initiation. Where Capricorn climbs in your chart is where you accept responsibility.
